Two small Bacho 1/4" ratchet sets 08 Feb 2012 14:51 #70

I have had two small 1/4" ratchet sets from Bacho for a while.

The larger of the two sets Bacho SL25 is fairly conventional with sockets ranging from 4mm to 13mm, a ratchet, an extender and a few bits. Fairly ordinary, in a small handy package. It has worked very well so far and I really have no complaints at all; the quality seems solid.

The second set Bacho 2058/S26 is however more interesting. It is smaller; the whole box is about the size of a packet of cigarettes (don't smoke, it will kill you!). So it is really pocket sized.

Instead of a full conventional ratchet spanner, it has one with a through hole head where you can fit bits. The ratchet handle is about the length of my index finger. The ratchet handle is about the length of my index finger.

The back end is a fixed 8mm ring key. This is a really nice little kit, a bit out of the ordinary. The kit includes 18 bits of good quality and five sockets. There is also a socket adapter and a bit extender with a fast release bit holder.

I wish they would have built more on the tiny-aspect of this kit. Bits and sockets included are average-sized for a 1/4" set. The hex bots for example are 3, 4 ,5 and 6mm. The five and six millimeters are really too big for this ratchet while the small ones; 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm are missed. It is the same for the other types of bits; too large for the ratchet and the smallest ones are missed. Sockets are from 6,7,8,10 and 13 mm. At least the two largest are too large for the ratchet and could better have been swapped for 5.5mm, 5mm, 4mm (these sizes are actually in the larger kit). With these included, we would have covered screws from really tiny M2 to M5. And why is there a 6mm socket included? There is no 6mm standard M-series bolt or nut, just some odd non-standard screws.

If Bacho had focused on the small bits more, this would have been a really truly out of the ordinary kit. Now it is more like one out of many, even if a nice little one. Oh, and the 8mm fixed key could have been swapped for a fixed 1/4" for the bits too.

Both kits have inserts made from some foamy, rubbery material which add to the feeling of quality.
